S.S.C ( State Board )

State Boards are comparatively limited in the content and subjects as compared to other boards. The syllabus is easier and hence less stressful for the students. These schools being state-centric are excellent for parents planning to stay in the same state for life. The State language is compulsory. As the concepts are generally lagging the kids have to be given external coaching if planning for IIT, CAT, and other competitive exams. These schools are great for kids who are focused on extracurricular activities like sports etc.

Advantage of State Board.
⇒    Every state in India has its own curriculum.
⇒    The state boards are slightly easier as compared to other different types of education boards in India.
⇒    Students of all levels of ability will be able to succeed through the curriculum.
⇒    Students can score well in public exams.
⇒    Students who wish to score well in class 12 and prepare for competitive exams such as the JEE and NEET can benefit from this board.

Disadvantage of State Board.
⇒    As compared to CBSE and ICSE and other different education boards in India, the state board syllabus is not comprehensive enough.
⇒    State boards promote rote learning.
⇒    The state language is usually mandatory to opt for, which might be a barrier to students from other states.

CBSE - Central Board of Secondary Education

Central Board of Secondary Education: Know as the CBSE board. It prepares the syllabus for students up to Class 12. The curriculum is set by National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). The board conducts India's two nation-wide board examinations: the All India Secondary School Examination for Class 10 and the All India Senior School Certificate Examination for Class 12.

Advantage of CBSE Board.
⇒    In light of CBSE's extensive presence, parents with transferable jobs or those who are moving between locations have a wide array of options.
⇒    CBSE offers students the freedom to select subjects of their choice from a wide range of subjects (approximately 211).
⇒    Students who wish to pursue schooling in distance mode can also apply for admissions and sit for exams.
⇒    It has also started Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) from class 6 to 10 which aims to test students throughout the year rather than a single exam at the end of the year.
⇒    Exams for entrance to most national universities are based on the CBSE curriculum.

Disadvantage of CBSE Board.
⇒    CBSE focuses more on the theoretical concepts and tends to follow the rote learning basis curriculum.
⇒    CBSE syllabus is geared more towards preparing students for engineering and medical entrance examinations.

ICSE - Indian Certificate for Secondary Education

The ICSE board follows the basics strengthening syllabus. all the introduction is repeated and then quadratic equations are handled. Even questions are based on the basics. This makes the basics of the topic very strong. This helps the student a lot of confidence when higher studies are involved. As his basics are very strong, half the job is done. There is lot of focus on language and literature. This curriculum is very good when it comes to general knowledge and general subjects . However it is unnecessarily vast.

Advantage of ICSE Board.
⇒    ICSE emphasizes more on language and art subjects and has an application-based curriculum.
⇒    Among the different types of education boards in India, this board can be useful for parents whose work requires them to travel abroad, making it much easier for their children to adapt to different schools.
⇒    The course curriculum provides more flexibility and a wider variety of subjects than CBSE.
⇒    The students can follow any textbook of their choice.
⇒    It focuses more on applied/practical knowledge rather than rote learning.

Disadvantage of ICSE Board.
⇒    ICSE board places more emphasis on the English language as the medium of instruction.
⇒    Students from a non-affiliated school are not permitted to appear for the exam in ICSE as compared to CBSE.
⇒    The course curriculum is tougher than CBSE.
⇒    Students sometimes may find it hard to shift to other different education boards in India from the ICSE curriculum.

The overall atmosphere in the school is international, with kids taking teachers as their equals. However these schools can be extremely expensive!

⇒    The focus is on applied knowledge rather than rote learning.
⇒    Students can choose a subject of their choice at the Diploma Program level each from 6 groups. ⇒    This board is apt for students who are looking to go overseas for their college education or with parents that have jobs that may take them abroad or expatriate community members in India.

Disadvantage of I.B Board.
⇒    The IB board does not correspond to the national entrance examinations curriculum.
⇒    IB schools are slightly more expensive than ICSE and CBSE schools.
⇒    Students are not allowed to take the exams privately.
⇒    It may become difficult for students to shift to one of the different education boards in India boards if they want to switch.
